Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question before you call? You are in the right place. Below are the questions we hear most often from new clients across the Rio Grande Valley and Texas — answered honestly and completely. If you do not see your question here, call or text 956-455-1313 any time.
📌 The short version of almost every answer below: Yes, the consultation is free. Yes, we serve all of Texas. Yes, we speak Spanish. Yes, we can help with your specific situation. And no — working with us never costs you more than enrolling on your own. Read on for the full details.
🚀 Getting Started
Completely free — no catch, no obligation, no hidden fee at the end. Insurance agents are compensated by the insurance carriers when a policy is placed, not by the client. You never pay for a consultation, a plan comparison, or enrollment assistance. Whether you enroll through us or not, the conversation costs you nothing.
Three easy ways — call or text us directly at 956-455-1313, use the online booking form at antonioespinoinsurance.com/request-a-call-back, or simply send us a message. We will get back to you promptly to find a time that works for your schedule. Appointments are available by phone, video, or in person at our Harlingen office at 1402 S M St STE 3, Harlingen, TX 78550.
You can absolutely just call — 956-455-1313. If Antonio is available he will talk with you right then. If he is with another client, leave a message or send a text and he will return your call as soon as possible. For more complex situations — comparing multiple Medicare plans, reviewing a full family health insurance situation, or discussing annuity options — scheduling in advance ensures you get the full time and attention your situation deserves.
It depends on what we are discussing — but here is a general list that covers most situations: your Medicare card or current insurance card, a list of your current medications and dosages, your preferred doctors and any specialists you see regularly, your household income and family size if we are discussing subsidies or the Medicare Savings Program, and any current insurance bills or Explanation of Benefits you have questions about. You do not need everything — bring what you have and we will work with it.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Insurance decisions affect the whole family, and having a spouse, adult child, or trusted family member present means everyone hears the same information at the same time. It also means the people who matter most to you can ask their own questions. Family is always welcome.
💬 What to Expect in a Consultation
It depends on the complexity of your situation. A straightforward Medicare Advantage comparison for one person typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. A full family health insurance review with subsidy calculation and plan comparison can take 45 to 60 minutes. An annuity or life insurance needs analysis may take 60 minutes or more. We never rush a consultation — you get as much time as your situation requires.
Never. The goal of every consultation is to make sure you understand your options — not to close a sale. If the right plan for your situation is one we cannot help you with, we will tell you that. If you need time to think it over, take it. If you want to come back with questions, the door is open. The only decision that matters is the right one for you — and that decision should never feel rushed or pressured.
Yes — every consultation is available in English or Spanish from start to finish. Not with a translator on hold — but directly, fluently, in the language you are most comfortable with. In the Rio Grande Valley, bilingual service is not a bonus feature. It is a basic standard of care that every client deserves.
Yes — and many of our clients prefer it. Phone and video consultations are just as thorough and effective as in-person appointments. We can share screens during a video call to walk through plan options together, complete enrollment remotely, and answer every question you have — all without you having to leave your home. This is especially convenient for clients outside the Rio Grande Valley or those with busy schedules.
Yes — and this is one of the most valuable things we do. Many people are in plans that made sense when they enrolled but no longer fit their current situation — new doctors, new medications, income changes, or simply better options that became available. A coverage review costs nothing and can reveal savings or improvements you did not know were available. Annual reviews are something we recommend for every client.
📋 Products and Services
Espino Insurance Group helps clients across five main areas — Medicare (Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D drug plans), Health Insurance (ACA Marketplace plans, short-term medical, and COBRA comparisons), Life Insurance (term life and final expense/burial insurance), Annuities (fixed indexed annuities and MYGAs), and Supplemental Insurance (dental, vision and hearing, hospital indemnity, and cancer/heart attack/stroke insurance). One agent. One relationship. Every major insurance need your family has.
Yes — Espino Insurance Group is an independent agency. We are not employed by any single insurance company and have no obligation to any specific carrier. We represent multiple highly rated insurance carriers across every product line, which allows us to compare the full market and recommend what genuinely fits your situation — not what a single company happens to offer. The specific carriers available vary by product and coverage area.
Yes — and this is an area where working with a knowledgeable agent makes a real difference. For Medicare plans, pre-existing conditions cannot affect your eligibility or premium. For ACA health insurance, the same is true — pre-existing conditions are fully covered with no premium impact. For life insurance and supplemental products like cancer or hospital indemnity insurance, health conditions do affect underwriting — but we know which carriers are most flexible for specific conditions like diabetes, COPD, heart history, and high blood pressure, and we can identify your best available options before you apply.
Yes — and this is something we do regularly at no charge. The Medicare Savings Program helps qualifying low-income Medicare beneficiaries have their Part B premium — $185/month in 2026 — paid by the state of Texas. Many people who qualify never apply because they do not know about it. If you think you might qualify based on your income, ask us during your consultation and we will check your eligibility and help with the application at no cost.
Yes — we offer the ManhattanLife Dental, Vision and Hearing Select plan, which is a guaranteed-issue standalone dental insurance plan available for ages 3 to 99 with no health questions. It covers preventive, basic, and major dental services with annual maximums from $1,000 to $5,000, optional vision and hearing riders, and no waiting period for preventive care. This plan can be purchased online directly at any time — or we can walk you through it during a consultation.
📍 Coverage Area
No — Espino Insurance Group serves clients across all of Texas. The Rio Grande Valley is where we are from and where our roots run deepest, but our license and our service extend statewide. Clients in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, El Paso, Corpus Christi, and every other part of Texas can work with us by phone or video — and receive the same thorough, honest, bilingual guidance as our neighbors in Harlingen and Brownsville.
We serve all communities across Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy Counties — including Brownsville, Harlingen, McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco, San Benito, Mercedes, Alamo, San Juan, Donna, La Feria, Rio Hondo, Raymondville, Hidalgo, South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Rancho Viejo, Palmview, La Joya, Roma, Laguna Vista, Santa Rosa, and all surrounding communities. If you are in South Texas, we are your local agent.
Yes — our primary office is located at 1402 S M St STE 3, Harlingen, TX 78550. In-person appointments are available at the Harlingen office. For clients across the Valley and throughout Texas, phone and video consultations are available and equally thorough — most clients find them just as effective as coming in person and significantly more convenient.
Yes — we help family members across Texas regardless of where they live. If your parents are in McAllen and you are in Houston, we can handle their Medicare consultation by phone or video. If your adult children are in Dallas and need health insurance, we can help them too. Family is our business — and geography is not a barrier to getting the guidance your family deserves.
🤝 After Enrollment
The relationship does not end at enrollment — it is just getting started. We are available for questions about your coverage, help understanding your Explanation of Benefits, guidance when a claim is denied, annual review appointments to make sure your plan still fits your needs, and help with any plan changes during eligible enrollment periods. You have a real person — the same person — to call every time. That is the difference between a local agent and a national call center.
Yes — while we cannot guarantee specific outcomes on claims, we can help you understand your Explanation of Benefits, determine whether a denial was appropriate under your plan’s terms, and guide you through the appeals process if a claim was incorrectly denied. Having an agent in your corner when something goes wrong is one of the most underappreciated benefits of working with a local agent rather than enrolling on your own.
Yes — and we proactively reach out to clients before annual enrollment periods to schedule reviews. Medicare plans change every year — premiums, networks, drug formularies, and benefits can all shift. A plan that was right last year may not be the best option this year. Our annual review process ensures you are always in the right plan for your current situation — not the plan you happened to be in when you last talked to someone.
Call us. Any time your situation changes in a way that might affect your coverage — new prescription, new specialist, income change that affects subsidy eligibility, a move to a different county — we want to know about it. Some changes can be addressed mid-year through Special Enrollment Periods. Others are better addressed at the next annual enrollment. Either way, staying connected means we can respond to your changing needs rather than leaving you in a plan that no longer fits.
🏥 Medicare Questions
Ideally three to six months before your 65th birthday — or three to six months before losing employer coverage if you are already past 65 and were covered by an employer plan. Medicare enrollment has specific windows and missing them can result in permanent late enrollment penalties that follow you for life. Starting the conversation early gives you time to understand your options without any deadline pressure.
Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare — you use the plan’s network and pay copays as you go, but your total out-of-pocket is capped by an annual maximum. Medicare Supplement works alongside Original Medicare — it pays the gaps Original Medicare leaves behind (like the Part A deductible and Part B coinsurance), giving you more predictable costs and broader provider access. Which one is right depends on your health, your budget, your doctors, and how you use health care. This is exactly the kind of comparison we walk through in a consultation.
Yes — but timing matters. The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7 each year and allows you to switch Medicare Advantage or Part D plans for the following January 1. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 through March 31 and allows one plan change. Switching Medicare Supplement plans outside of your initial enrollment window may require health underwriting in most states. We review your options during your annual review and help you make any changes during the appropriate window.
Original Medicare — Parts A and B — does not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing expenses. Some Medicare Advantage plans include limited dental and vision benefits, but the annual limits are often modest. For meaningful dental, vision, and hearing coverage, a standalone supplemental plan is typically the most effective solution. We offer a guaranteed-issue dental, vision, and hearing plan that can be added at any time regardless of your health status.
The Medicare Savings Program is a state-run program that helps qualifying low-income Medicare beneficiaries pay their Medicare Part B premium — $185/month in 2026 — and in some cases their Part A premium and cost-sharing as well. Eligibility is based on income and asset limits set by the state of Texas. Many people who qualify never apply because they do not know about it or assume they do not qualify. We check eligibility for every Medicare client at no charge and help with the application if you qualify.
❤️ Health Insurance and Life Insurance Questions
Yes — and this is one of the most common situations we help with. Self-employed individuals, 1099 workers, freelancers, and small business owners can purchase individual health insurance through the ACA Marketplace. Depending on your net income, you may qualify for a premium tax credit that significantly reduces your monthly cost — sometimes to $0. We calculate your subsidy eligibility, compare every plan available in your zip code, check your doctors and prescriptions, and help you enroll — all at no cost.
Losing employer coverage triggers a 60-day Special Enrollment Period during which you can enroll in an ACA Marketplace health plan. We compare three options side by side — COBRA continuation, ACA Marketplace plans, and short-term medical — based on your specific income, family size, and health needs. Most people who call us in this situation find the ACA Marketplace to be significantly more affordable than COBRA after accounting for their new subsidy eligibility at reduced income.
The right amount depends on your income, your debts, your mortgage, the ages of your children, your spouse’s income, your existing savings, and what you want the policy to accomplish. We use the DIME method — Debt, Income, Mortgage, Education — as a starting framework and then adjust based on your specific financial picture. A life insurance needs analysis is part of every life insurance consultation and is completely free.
Yes — final expense and burial insurance are specifically designed for seniors and are available up to age 85 or older depending on the carrier. These policies have smaller face amounts — typically $5,000 to $35,000 — simplified health questions, fixed premiums that never increase, and benefits that never expire as long as premiums are paid. Many seniors with diabetes, heart history, COPD, or other health conditions can still qualify. We compare multiple carriers to find the best fit for your specific health history.
👤 About Antonio and Espino Insurance Group
Antonio has been a licensed insurance agent since 2017. Before insurance, he spent eight years as a General Manager for Hibbett Sports and worked as a teacher — careers that gave him a deep appreciation for serving people and a commitment to making complex information understandable. He has helped thousands of families across the Rio Grande Valley and Texas since entering the industry.
Espino Insurance Group is a locally owned and operated independent agency — not a franchise, not a national brand, and not a call center. Antonio was born and raised in Brownsville and has never left the Valley. His wife Rubi, his twin brother Albert, and his sister Alicia are all part of the agency. This is a family agency built by people from the Rio Grande Valley who are committed to serving this community with the same care and honesty they would want for their own families.
Antonio holds a Texas Life and Health Insurance license, which covers health insurance, Medicare, life insurance, annuities, and supplemental insurance products across the state of Texas.
That is exactly the right question to ask — and we welcome it. We encourage you to ask us how we are compensated, ask why we are recommending a specific plan over others, ask what the plan does NOT cover, and bring a family member to your consultation. A trustworthy agent welcomes scrutiny because every recommendation they make is one they can stand behind completely. We have been building our reputation in this community one honest conversation at a time since 2017 — and we intend to keep doing exactly that.
Still Have a Question? Just Ask.
If your question is not answered above — or if you are ready to schedule a consultation — the easiest thing to do is call or text. No automated system. No hold music. Just a real person who knows insurance and genuinely wants to help. Serving the Rio Grande Valley and all of Texas in English and Spanish.
